Anime North Lolita Fashion Show featuring Juliette et Justine, with special guest Misako Aoki.
Mari Nakamura, the designer for Japanese brand Juliette et Justine, was a special guest at this year’s lolita fashion show. appearing for the first time at Anime North with her beautiful clothing collection. Many of her currently available collection went on sale in the dealer’s room (cash sales only!) at the convention, and all the stockings were sold out on the first day. She presented her latest collection with special guest Misako Aoki walking down the catwalk at the very end, and took questions at the Q&A panel. Nakamura-san talked about designing her clothes without having any previous training in fashion design or sewing, and the importance of placing your trust in others to help you realize your goals. She avoids looking at other lolita and fashion magazine sources to try to keep her designs as original as possible. She also mentioned the increasing interest in her clothing from customers outside of Japan, it seems like the majority of the orders coming to her now are from foreigners! Nakamura-san also lamented how some of her fondest designs were the worst sellers, and was hesitant to “curse” her designs by saying which ones from this collection was her favourite. If the theme of cats seem to reoccur more than once, it’s because she owns two cats herself, which were inspiration for some of her pieces.
Thank you for visiting, Maki Nakamura and Misako Aoki! It was a real treat!
